Elapsed Time Since Man Landed on the Moon

On July 20,1969 two members of the Apollo 11 crew landed on the lunar surface. The entire world watched in wide eyed amazement at what seemed to be the beginning of a new era of exploration. The last manned lunar landing occured on 1972.

Today, we hear much speculation about going to the planet Mars. The truth is, we have not built any spacecraft that could even return us to the Moon in many years. During a lecture attended by Mike Burchett and Danny K. Blevins, well known engineer and space pioneer Dr.John Houbolt said,"It would take more money than the entire United States Treasury to get man to Mars."

The United States currently has no Saturn V rockets being produced and the fleet of space shuttles are for Earth orbiting operations only. A Mars rocket would have to be much more sophisticated in capabilities and accomadations than anything that has ever been constructed including the mighty Saturn V.

It looks like those wanting to travel to Mars may have a LONG wait?
